...Water levels are running high along the Upper Arkansas River at 
Leadville...Salida...Wellsville...Parkdale...Canon City...Portland...
Lower Arkansas River at Avondale...Nepesta...Rocky Ford...

Recent heavy rainfall and snowmelt runoff continue to cause high water
flow in the Arkansas River in the upper Arkansas River Valley and
portions of the lower Arkansas River Valley. The Arkansas River at
La Junta is forecast to come close to flood stage Wednesday
afternoon, but is still expected to remain in action stage.

River levels are expected to remain within banks...but the high flows
will still be dangerous. Those participating in activities near the 
water are advised to use extreme caution. Strong currents could 
quickly become a safety hazard.

Arkansas River Near Leadville...
* At  2:15 PM Tuesday the stage was 8.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.


Arkansas River At Salida...
* At  2:15 PM Tuesday the stage was 6.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.


Arkansas River Near Wellsville...
* At  2:15 PM Tuesday the stage was 7.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.


Arkansas River At Parkdale...
* At  1:45 PM Tuesday the stage was 7.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.


Arkansas River At Canon City...
* At  2:15 PM Tuesday the stage was 9.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.


Arkansas River At Portland...
* At  2:15 PM Tuesday the stage was 6.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.


Arkansas River Near Avondale...
* At  2:30 PM Tuesday the stage was 6.8 feet.
* Flood stage is 7.0 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.


Arkansas River Near Nepesta...
* At  2:31 PM Tuesday the stage was 15.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 16.5 feet.

Arkansas River Near Rocky Ford...

* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.

High flows are not uncommon this time of year...but they still pose a
serious threat to persons in or near the water. Each year...high 
flows result in mishaps that are sometimes fatal. 

Stay away from the banks of rivers and streams. During high water...
saturated banks can easily break off and fall into potentially 
deadly...fast flowing water.
