THE WARM TEMPERATURES OF THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS...COMBINED WITH THE ONE-TENTH TO ONE-THIRD INCH OF RAINFALL ON MONDAY...HAS CAUSED THE PRE-EXISTING SNOW PACK ACROSS PARTS OF NORTHWEST IOWA TO RAPIDLY MELT AND RUNOFF INTO THE RIVERS. LOCALIZED ICE JAMS HAVE ALSO CONTRIBUTED TO HIGHER STAGES IN SOME AREAS. THE SNOW PACK IN THESE AREAS CONTAINED 1 TO 3 INCHES OF WATER PRIOR TO THE MELT...AND NEARLY ALL OF THIS WATER HAS MADE IT INTO THE RIVERS IN THE PAST 2 TO 3 DAYS. WATER LEVELS ON PARTS OF THE ROCK...FLOYD...AND OCHEYEDAN RIVERS HAVE INCREASED TO LEVELS JUST BELOW FLOOD STAGE. WITH COLDER TEMPERATURES MOVING BACK INTO THE REGION WEDNESDAY THROUGH THIS WEEKEND...THE RUNOFF WILL BE REDUCED OR STOPPED WITH FREEZING TEMPERATURES. ICE JAM EFFECTS ARE ALSO LEADING TO ADDITIONAL FLUCTUATIONS OF THE WATER LEVELS...BUT THIS SHOULD ALSO BE STOPPING OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS. MINOR LOWLAND FLOODING IS POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY IN THE VICINITY OF ICE JAMS THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY MORNING. CONDITIONS SHOULD IMPROVE THROUGH THE LATTER PART OF THE WEEK.
