Rating: TSTM/Wind Estimated Peak Wind: 100 mph Path Length /statute/: 8.74 miles Path Width /maximum/: 8745 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 1 Start Date: 05/30/2024 Start Time: 06:40 PM CDT Start Location: 7 SE Nacogdoches / Nacogdoches County / TX Start Lat/Lon: 31.5433 / -94.5621 End Date: 05/30/2024 End Time: 06:50 PM CDT End Location: 6 NW Chireno / Nacogdoches County / TX End Lat/Lon: 31.5698 / -94.4177 Survey Summary: This strong thunderstorm moved through Nacogdoches County. Most of the winds were estimated around 90 mph with peak wind gusts of 100 mph and causing significant tree damage to the east of Nacogdoches. There was also an embedded tornado in the swath of damage. Damage begin along County Road 313 and County Road 302 south to Oak Ridge and then along FM 226 to Woden. Widespread tree damage was observed from these points northeastward through County Road 411, County Road 331, County Road 338, and County Road 350. The damage swath came to an end at the intersection of County Road 350 and County Road 338. As the storm passed Highway 21 East between County Road 419 and County Road 350, a large tree fell down onto the a house and caused one injury to the home owner. ..Tornado #1: Nacogdoches County TX... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 100 mph Path Length /statute/: 4.19 miles Path Width /maximum/: 387 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/30/2024 Start Time: 06:41 PM CDT Start Location: 6 ESE Nacogdoches / Nacogdoches County / TX Start Lat/Lon: 31.5876 / -94.5421 End Date: 05/30/2024 End Time: 06:49 PM CDT End Location: 9 WNW Chireno / Nacogdoches County / TX End Lat/Lon: 31.5621 / -94.4779 Survey Summary: This EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 100 mph, was part of a line of convection that moved through Nacogdoches County and was embedded in a much wider swath of wind damage. The tornado first touched down southwest of the corner at County Road 302 and County Road 313. The damage in this area consisted of many trees snapped or uprooted that were convergent and more chaotic than the surrounding damage, however, there was some damage to the roofing of a small barn on the property along with a snapped power pole nearby. The tornado then crossed County Road 313 just south of County Road 302 where we saw significant tree damage. From here, the road network was sparse and we were unable to find any other points until the tornado crossed County Road 302 north of San Augustine Highway to the west of Melrose. EF-0 damage continued along County Road 302 south to San Augustine Highway with damage being seen along the highway into Melrose. The tornado then crossed County Road 331 where damage seemed to increase and was consistent with that of EF-1 wind speeds. From here the tornado continued north of San Augustine Highway till it reached FM 3276 before it lifted just to the east of 3276. Special thanks to the Nacogdoches EM Community for helping locate the damage and to the Melrose Volunteer Fire Department who were kind enough to drive us through many of the back roads to find damage. .Shelby County TX and DeSoto Parish LA Wind Damage Swath... Rating: TSTM/Wind Estimated Peak Wind: 95 mph Path Length /statute/: 34.98 miles Path Width /maximum/: 9000 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/30/2024 Start Time: 07:00 PM CDT Start Location: 3 ENE Center / Shelby County / TX Start Lat/Lon: 31.803 / -94.1283 End Date: 05/30/2024 End Time: 07:45 PM CDT End Location: 7 N Mansfield / De Soto Parish / LA End Lat/Lon: 32.1467 / -93.693 Survey Summary: A bowing segment of a quasi-linear convective system (surging thunderstorm squall line) produced a 4 to 5 mile swath of damaging winds ranging from 70 to 95 mph, originating east of Center TX in Shelby County and moving through western and central DeSoto Parish LA. This wind damage swath had multiple short-lived embedded tornadoes in DeSoto Parish, but straight-line winds, generally blowing from southwest to northeast, produced a vast amount of tree damage and associated widespread power outages. Quite a few structures were damaged from falling trees and limbs with some weaker barns and outbuildings also damaged from winds alone. It is probable that well over 1000 hardwood and softwood trees were uprooted (with some snapped) inside this wind damage swath. The saturated soils in association with the recent rainfall likely contributed to the magnitude of uprooted trees. The small town of Grand Cane LA was perhaps the largest community affected by this wind damage swath. Many thanks to the DeSoto Parish and Shelby County EM community for assisting us with the survey. ..Tornado #2: Friendship Road (DeSoto Parish)... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 90 mph Path Length /statute/: 2.55 miles Path Width /maximum/: 175 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/30/2024 Start Time: 07:30 PM CDT Start Location: 4 NNE Stanley / De Soto Parish / LA Start Lat/Lon: 32.02 / -93.8785 End Date: 05/30/2024 End Time: 07:33 PM CDT End Location: 3 SW Grand Cane / De Soto Parish / LA End Lat/Lon: 32.0492 / -93.8538 Survey Summary: This brief and weak EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 90 mph, in association with a quasi-linear convection system (surging thunderstorm squall line), began along Willie Glaze Road and traveled northeast across Friendship Road and Sammy Railey Road before ending along Mounce Road. Damage was almost exclusively to trees and tree damage aligned in different directions confirmed rotation associated with a tornado. There was also a brief radar tornado debris signature in close vicinity to this tornado. Fortunately, there were no injuries. Many thanks to the DeSoto Parish EM community for assisting us with the survey. ..Tornado #3: Blunt Mill Road (DeSoto Parish) Tornado 1... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 100 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.65 miles Path Width /maximum/: 275 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/30/2024 Start Time: 07:35 PM CDT Start Location: 2 SSW Grand Cane / De Soto Parish / LA Start Lat/Lon: 32.0488 / -93.8248 End Date: 05/30/2024 End Time: 07:38 PM CDT End Location: 1 S Grand Cane / De Soto Parish / LA End Lat/Lon: 32.068 / -93.8082 Survey Summary: This brief EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 100 mph, in association with a quasi-linear convection system (surging thunderstorm squall line), began along Mounce Road, a few miles east of where the Friendship Road tornado ended along Mounce Road. It then traveled northeast and heavily affected a small community near Thomas line where one mobile home was destroyed by a large uprooted tree. The tornado then moved across Blunt Mill Road before ending shortly thereafter. Damage was mostly to trees and tree damage aligned in different directions confirmed rotation associated with a tornado. Fortunately, there were no injuries and the destroyed mobile home appeared to be unoccupied. Many thanks to the DeSoto Parish EM community for assisting us with the survey and thanks to the DeSoto Sheriffs Department for aerial footage of damage which proved helpful in discriminating straight line wind damage from tornado damage. ..Tornado #4: Blunt Mill Road (DeSoto Parish) Tornado 2... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 105 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.01 miles Path Width /maximum/: 110 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/30/2024 Start Time: 07:36 PM CDT Start Location: 2 S Grand Cane / De Soto Parish / LA Start Lat/Lon: 32.0496 / -93.8167 End Date: 05/30/2024 End Time: 07:38 PM CDT End Location: 2 SSE Grand Cane / De Soto Parish / LA End Lat/Lon: 32.0592 / -93.804 Survey Summary: This brief EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 105 mph, in association with a quasi-linear convection system (surging thunderstorm squall line), began near the intersection of Mounce Road and Blunt Mill Road, less than a mile east of where the previous tornado began. This tornado also traveled northeast and ended in a wooded area east of Blunt Mill Road. Damage was mostly to trees and powerlines and convergent tree damage aligned in different directions confirmed rotation associated with a tornado. Fortunately, there were no injuries. Many thanks to the DeSoto Parish EM community for assisting us with the survey and thanks to the DeSoto Sheriffs Department for aerial footage of damage which proved helpful in discriminating straight line wind damage from tornado damage. ..Tornado #5: Interstate 49 and Frierson (DeSoto Parish)... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 110 mph Path Length /statute/: 3.89 miles Path Width /maximum/: 400 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/30/2024 Start Time: 07:51 PM CDT Start Location: 7 ESE Stonewall / De Soto Parish / LA Start Lat/Lon: 32.1992 / -93.7057 End Date: 05/30/2024 End Time: 08:01 PM CDT End Location: 7 E Stonewall / De Soto Parish / LA End Lat/Lon: 32.2541 / -93.6911 Survey Summary: This EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 110 mph, in association with a quasi-linear convection system (surging thunderstorm squall line), began just east of Highway 175, about one mile south of Interstate 49. The highest rated damage actually was at the very start of the tornado where a barn was almost completely destroyed with many trees snapped and uprooted on that property. A well- built residence did receive damage at this location, but this was deemed to be mostly from portions of the barn and other trees flying onto the structure. From here, the tornado crossed Interstate 49, although tree damage here was not considerable. The next road impacted on the north-northeast path of the tornado was Farris Lane where a few mobile homes received minor damage and quite a few trees were downed in random directions. The tornado continued onward and the survey team assessed another increase in strength as it passed just on the western side of Frierson. Here, on a short road just south of Polk Avenue, the tornado managed to throw a small metal building system (MBS) after the column anchorages failed. This sort of damage has potential to garner a rating greater than EF-1, but in this case much tamer damage immediately surrounding the MBS inclined the survey team to rate this damage point at just less than 100 mph. Portions of the MBS actually flew into a different property along Stonewall-Frierson Road and produced car and property damage related to the impact. The tornado only continued a little further from this point and the last signs of damage related to this tornado were at a westward bend to Stonewall-Frierson Road on the north side of the Frierson Community. Tree damage aligned in different directions in many areas, and other signs of convergence, confirmed rotation associated with a tornado. Fortunately, there were no injuries. It is also important to point out that the arcing and north-northeast moving thunderstorm line segment produced lots of tree damage surrounding this tornado. The difference in the surrounding tree damage was that it was mainly oriented to the northeast and did not show signs of convergence and rotation associated with the assessed tornadic damage. Many thanks to the DeSoto Parish EM community for assisting us with the survey. ..Tornado #6: Gravel Point Road (De Soto Parish)... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 88 mph Path Length /statute/: 0.48 miles Path Width /maximum/: 250 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/30/2024 Start Time: 07:58 PM CDT Start Location: 8 E Stonewall / De Soto Parish / LA Start Lat/Lon: 32.2417 / -93.677 End Date: 05/30/2024 End Time: 07:59 PM CDT End Location: 8 E Stonewall / De Soto Parish / LA End Lat/Lon: 32.2484 / -93.6772 Survey Summary: This brief and weak EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 88 mph, in association with a quasi-linear convection system (surging thunderstorm squall line), began along Gravel Point Road and traveled through a small portion of DeSoto Parish under new development. Damage was almost exclusively to trees and tree damage aligned in different directions confirmed rotation associated with a tornado. Fortunately, there were no injuries. Many thanks to the DeSoto Parish EM community for assisting us with the survey. ..Tornado #7: Bradleigh Blvd (De Soto Parish)... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 88 mph Path Length /statute/: 0.26 miles Path Width /maximum/: 100 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/30/2024 Start Time: 07:59 PM CDT Start Location: 8 E Stonewall / De Soto Parish / LA Start Lat/Lon: 32.2483 / -93.6651 End Date: 05/30/2024 End Time: 08:00 PM CDT End Location: 8 E Stonewall / De Soto Parish / LA End Lat/Lon: 32.2521 / -93.6661 Survey Summary: This brief and weak EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 88 mph, in association with a quasi-linear convection system (surging thunderstorm squall line), began along Bradleigh Blvd and traveled through a small portion of DeSoto Parish under new development. Damage was almost exclusively to trees and tree damage aligned in different directions confirmed rotation associated with a tornado. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
