FXUS65 KPIH 032050 AFDPIH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pocatello ID 150 PM MST Tue Dec 3 2024 .Discussion...Tonight through next Tuesday. Rex blocking pattern continues to shift east across the Intermountain West through Thursday. Temperatures remain warmer than normal for the rest of the work week, with light winds, and periods of high clouds. We are starting to have some confidence with the blocking pattern weakening headed into the weekend, despite some lingering ensemble cluster differences. Weak dry shortwave crosses the PacNW Thursday night/Friday. This leads the way for a Pacific low to reach Vancouver/Seattle late Saturday, crossing Idaho through the day Sunday. The clusters and ensemble means all support this scenario, just at different amplitudes and slightly different timing. Light precip projected to spread mainly across higher elevations Saturday, and increasing coverage to lower elevations Saturday night through Sunday night. Despite the mainly scattered PoPs, amounts still look quite low with probabilistic data supporting only 4-6" of snowfall above 8000 ft across portions of the central mountains. The trough digs into the central plains Sunday night through Monday, leaving strong northerly flow over the region for the early part of next week, which should usher a return to near or slightly below normal temperatures. Scenarios can obviously evolve over the coming week, especially with the fluctuation we recently see in the ensembles. DMH && .AVIATION...VFR conditions continue with light mainly downvalley winds. A few high clouds will cross the region late this afternoon and tonight, with minimal to no impact. A few valley locations have been seeing minimally impactful low stratus and light fog the past few mornings, and will have to be monitored for inclusion at terminals. DMH && .PIH WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$
