Weather Forecast Office (WFO) Guam is going to add three new products in the Coastal Hazard Message category in order to provide important information along the coastal and surf zone environment for our customers. When these new products are issued, related headlines will be included in the Surf Zone and/or Public Forecasts. GUZ001>004-170800- Guam-Rota-Tinian-Saipan- 700 PM ChST Sat Feb 17 2018 New Products For the Mariana Islands: * Coastal Flood Watch/Advisory/Warning These products inform our customers on the potential of coastal inundation along the shorelines. A watch is issued when inundation is possible in 12 to 48 hours. An advisory is issued when inundation up to 1 foot is expected within 12 hours. A warning is issued when inundation of 1 to 3 feet poses a serious threat to life and property is anticipated within 12 hours. * Rip Current Statement This statement informs our customers when a high risk of rip currents is anticipated in the surf zone. If hazardous surf is also expected, this product will be incorporated into the High Surf Advisory or Warning. When additional hazards other than hazardous surf are also present within the surf zone, this product will be included within the Beach Hazards Statement. * Beach Hazards Statement This statement informs our customers about unusual and potentially dangerous conditions within the zone surf such as strong water currents, lightning threats and inlet blockage. It can also provide information to our customers on environmental/biological hazards such as chemical spills, algal blooms and jelly fish.
