The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has extended 
the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Graham County in western North Carolina...
  Swain County in western North Carolina...

* Until 200 PM EDT.

* At 843 AM EDT, doppler radar indicated that the heaviest rainfall 
  has ended.  However, stream levels remain elevated and the ground 
  remains saturated.  Many locations have received 6 to 8 inches of 
  rain.  Significant flooding may still be ongoing still in many 
  locations.  The risk of life-threatening landslide activity 
  remains elevated.

  HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms
           producing flash flooding.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
           urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.
           First-floor inundation of homes and businesses, damage
           to roads and bridges.  Life-threatening landslides.

  Bryson City, Robbinsville, Cherokee, Town Of Santeetlah, Fontana 
  Lake, Smoky Mountains-Fontana Area, Smoky Mountains-Clingmans 
  Dome, Smoky Mountains-Deep Creek, Fontana Village, Smoky 
  Mountains-Twentymile Creek, Lake Santeetlah, Smoky 
  Mountains-Newfound Gap, Smoky Mountains-Oconaluftee, Smoky 
  Mountains-Balsam Mountain, B.R. Parkway-Smoky Mountains To Balsam 
  Gap, Almond, Stecoah, Wesser, Luada and Nantahala.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Heavy rain is significantly increasing the risk of landslides, 
especially in areas where slides have occurred in the past. Slides 
can destroy single homes and other structures and large sections of 
roads. If you are in the warned area, you should not travel, except 
to move away from flash flood or landslide dangers. If you are in 
the vicinity of a stream near the heavy rainfall, especially on a 
mountainside, or at the base of a mountain or in a cove, move 
immediately to a safer location.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 
dangers of flooding.
