Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... North Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Goose Creek, Hanahan, Downtown Charleston, James Island, Fort Sumter, Daniel Island, West Ashley and I-26/I-526 Interchange. Radar imagery shows pockets of heavy rain moving into the Charleston area while the ongoing high tide remains very high thanks to onshore wind associated with Helene. The combination of intense rainfall rates and lingering tidal flooding will produce an increased risk of flash flooding around the Charleston metro area. The downtown Charleston area will likely see the greatest threat, but surrounding areas around Folly Beach, James Island, West Ashley, North Charleston, and Mount Pleasant will also be at risk. Rainfall rates of up to 2 inches per hour will be possible and flooding could cause damage to structures and roadways across the area through the mid to late morning hours.
