The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  East Central Alleghany VA County in west central Virginia...
  North Central Botetourt County in west central Virginia...
  West Central Rockbridge County in west central Virginia...

* Until 1000 PM EDT.

* At 603 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated 
  thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 2 
  inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 2 to 4 
  inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are 
  possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected 
  to begin shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

  Colliers Creek, Back Creek, Dry Creek, Buffalo Creek, Cowpasture 
  River, Blue Suck Branch and Alum Creek.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are 
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded 
roads. Find an alternate route.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding, 
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather 
Service by calling toll free at 1...8 6 6...2 1 5...4 3 2 4. Reports
