The National Weather Service in Burlington has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Northern Caledonia County in northeastern Vermont...
  Essex County in northeastern Vermont...
  Orleans County in northeastern Vermont...
  Northeastern Franklin County in northwestern Vermont...
  East Central Lamoille County in northwestern Vermont...

* Until 1045 AM EDT Thursday.

* At 427 AM EDT, Emergency management and fire department personnel 
  reported significant flash and riverine flooding continues in 
  portions of the warning area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have 
  fallen. Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall 
  is expected. Flash flooding is already occurring.

  HAZARD...Life threatening riverine and flash flooding.

  SOURCE...Emergency management reported.

  IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
           urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

* Some locations that may experience flash flooding include...
  Island Pond, Newport City, Lyndon, Enosburg Falls, Orleans, Derby 
  Center, Westmore, Brownington, Charleston, Willoughby, Barton, 
  Brownington Village, Barton Village, Sutton, Orleans Village, 
  Morgan, Sheffield, Newark, Newark Hollow and Derby.

The level at the gauge on the East Branch of the Passumpsic River in 
East Haven, Vermont was cresting near major flood stage of 10 feet.  
At 10 feet, widespread flooding will occur downstream in Lyndonville 
and Saint Johnsbury Center. Homes and businesses on Route 5 along 
the Passumpsic from Lyndonville to Saint Johnsbury will be 
inundated. Flooding similar to June 12 2002, July 1 1973, and Irene 
2011.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become 
unstable and unsafe.
