A VERY SLOW RISE MAY CONTINUE AT STATE ROAD 61 IN THE PETERSBURG AREA UNTIL SUNSET THURSDAY AND IN THE HAZLETON THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT. THE RIVER WILL APPROACH FLOOD STAGE AT HAZLETON ON FRIDAY NIGHT. THE CREST ON THE EAST FORK WHITE RIVER PASSED STATE ROAD 257 EARLY THURSDAY AFTERNOON. INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION OPENED STATE ROAD 257 EARLY THURSDAY AFTERNOON. THE ROAD WAS CLOSED ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON BECAUSE OF HIGH WATER. THE CREST FROM THE EAST FORK WHITE RIVER IS VERY NEAR THE PETERSBURG POWER PLANT ON THE WHITE RIVER. AT 4 PM EDT THURSDAY...AUTOMATED EQUIPMENT AT THE PETERSBURG POWER PLANT INDICATED THAT THE LEVEL OF THE WHITE RIVER HAD REMAINED EXACTLY THE SAME SINCE 930 AM EDT. FOR THIS FLOOD ON THE WHITE RIVER IN SOUTHWEST INDIANA...ALL OF THE FLOOD WATERS WERE COMING FROM THE EAST FORK WHITE RIVER. FLOODING OF THE EAST FORK WHITE RIVER IS A RESULT OF UP TO 7 INCHES OF RAIN THAT FELL AUGUST 4 IN PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST INDIANA. BANKFULL CONDITIONS AND LOWLAND FLOODING WILL CONTINUE ALONG THE WHITE RIVER IN SOUTHWEST INDIANA THROUGH SATURDAY. THE RIVER WILL RETURN TO LOWER LEVELS BY TUESDAY.
