...FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 815 PM EDT THIS EVENING...
...REPLACES FLASH FLOOD WARNING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...A portion of western North Carolina, including the 
  following counties, Jackson and Transylvania.

* WHEN...Until 815 PM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying 
  and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads 
  remain closed due to flooding. Streams continue to rise due to 
  excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are 
  inundated with water and may not be passable.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 308 PM EDT, emergency management reported Numerous
    roadways are flooded and impassable, and hundreds of trees
    are down across the area amid completely saturated ground in
    the warned area. Flooding is already occurring, due to
    between 6 and 9 inches of rainfall in the last 24 hours. At
    least one landslide has been reported by  emergency
    management, resulting in a partial closure of highway 64 in
    Jackson County. Little or no additional rainfall is expected,
    but widespread minor to moderate flooding will continue into
    this evening due to runoff.

    Brevard, Sylva, Cherokee, Cullowhee, Highlands, Balsam,
    Rosman, Webster, Dillsboro, Cashiers, Black Balsam Area, Lake
    Toxaway, B.R. Parkway-Balsam Gap To Black Balsam Area, Lake
    Glenville, Gorges State Park, B.R. Parkway-Black Balsam To
    Mount Pisgah, Lake Jocassee, Looking Glass, B.R. Parkway-
    Smoky Mountains To Balsam Gap and Mount Pisgah.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

When it is safe to do so, please report flooding or landslides 
threatening roads or property to the National Weather Service 
Greenville-Spartanburg by calling toll free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, 
by posting on our Facebook page, or via X using hashtag NWSGSP. Your 
message should describe the specific location where impacts occurred 
and the depth of flooding observed.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become 
unstable and unsafe.

Heavy rain is increasing the risk of landslides, especially in areas 
where slides have occurred in the past. Be especially alert if you 
are near a stream, especially at the base of a mountain or in a 
cove. Watch for loose-moving soil and rocks or a sudden increase in 
streamflow. Leave the area quickly if this is observed. When driving 
along roads where the terrain is steep or rocky, watch and listen 
for falling rocks, mud, trees and other debris.
